Ben Hur Gas Station at Cedar & Shields

Post by Lost Fresno » Tue Oct 22, 2019 3:09 pm

Ah, the memories of 35 cent gasoline at Urich's Ben Hur gas station. And of course, they washed your windshield and checked your oil - every single time! Obviously this was nothing unique to gas stations in the 1960's but for me - this was my go to spot because I grew up in the immediate area. The Ben Hur gas station will always mean something special.

I remember Urich's Ben Hur Service Station on the south-west corner of Cedar & Shields Avenues, Fresno, California. The guys that worked there worked hard to make sure their customers were taken care of - gas tanks filled, windshields washed, oil checked, water checked, battery checked, air pressure in the tires checked. They greeted you with a smile, treated you with courtesy, and got all of those things done quickly while never complaining and ironically never receiving tips. Thank you to all those guys who gave us outstanding service in the era of the Service Station.
