Recording Fresno's History

Post by tamooo » Wed Oct 16, 2024 6:07 pm

Hello,

I'm a student at Fresno State, grew up over in the Bullard High school area, I have many interests such as urban exploration in the downtown Fresno area, History, Writing, and photography. I'm incredibly passionate about the history of our city, specifically from the period of the Fulton mall revival from the 60s till around the early 90s. I'm reaching out here to this website because lots of you guys have experience and fond memories of this city. Considering I was born in the early 2000s the city has changed quite a bit in even the time that i've been alive. This website really increased my interest in cataloging and creating a mini documentary about the 20-30 years since the Fulton mall revival, just to highlight the demographic movement of people in the city, the stories that aren't cataloged, the beautiful downtown architecture, and just a way of reliving and remembering the living history that I visibly see slipping through our fingers.

My boss (who was in high school 80-90s) is always telling me stories about how Fresno use to be, he talks about going go-karting in the area that we now know as RiverPark. He has keen memories of going down Blackstone and shopping with his friends, and racing their friends cars down copper/Friant/Herndon My dad (born in the 60s) talks about how half of Fresno (Northwest) was basically empty, all of the cool things that they were up to and just the vibrant history of the city that we don't find in textbooks or writing anywhere. Digitally there is basically a blackhole of information.

To sum it all up, i'm reaching out to the community on here to see if you guys can direct me to either websites similar to this with community sourced information, or if you guys have photos from your past that you wouldn't mind sharing, I'd also love to do podcast style interviews where I talk with members of the community to relive the later half of the 20th century in Fresno.

Thank you so much!!
-Terrence
