Winchell’s donut house

Post by Danielofresno » Sun Sep 14, 2025 9:11 pm

I grew up going to Fresno donut house on the corner of shields and black stone and was told it used to be winchell’s by the owner. I went to one last year and confirm the sign and colors match. How many were there? I think that lucky’s donut house which shut down was also winchell’s. Any info be greatly appreciated

There were a lot of Winchell's in Fresno. They were like the Judy''s of today. I don't know if they were company owned or franchises. The 2 that I frequented the most was one on the N/W corner of Chestnut and Olive and the one you mentioned at Blackstone and Shields. Clovis had one on the N/W of Shaw and Clovis. If I remember, they stayed open really late, maybe all night, because there was always someone either baking or cleaning. Needless to say, robberies were common.
